be well…

As we age, we begin to experience a loss of collagen and facial fat. As the substance that keeps your skin looking young, full, and moist, collagen is vital in the maintenance of healthy skin. With aging, our skin begins to lose much of its youthful elasticity, which results in the emergence of wrinkles and facial drooping. This also leads to a loss of definition throughout various areas of the face.

Fillers: Juvederm, Volbella, Voluma, Restylane Refine/Define, Versa

Collagen-like dermal fillers are used to add volume to different areas of the face. It is injected into areas of the face or hands where moderate to severe wrinkles and folds occur. These products add volume to the skin, which greatly aids in the appearance of a smoother surface for up to 2 years based on the filler chosen.

Dermal Filler – Lips and chin
Dermal Filler – Tear trough

JUVEDERM VOLUMA® XC: A dermal filler designed to add volume beneath the skin’s surface, which provides lift and contour to the cheek area.

Most patients who receive fillers see visible wrinkle reduction for 9 to 24 months following their initial treatment.

As dermal filler treatment results are temporary, there are very few side effects associated with the treatment. Some patients report temporary redness and minimal swelling or bruising at the injection site that subsides within a few days. With any injection, there is always the risk of infection or intravascular complications. These rare complications would need to be reported as soon as possible and would require additional medical treatment.

Botox (a botulinum toxin) is a purified substance derived from bacteria. The injection of botulinum enables the muscle to relax by blocking nerve signals or chemicals that tell muscles to contract. The result is skin that appears smoother.

BOTOX was the first brand of botulinum toxin available, however Dysport and Xeomin all contain the same active ingredient as Botox: botulinum toxin type A. All three brands reach their maximum effects in 2-3 weeks, however patients see Dysport usually onset in 1 to 2 days, while Xeomin has a more gradual onset. Botox typically starts working in 2-3 days. There are no studies that determine which lasts longest, most doctors will agree that BOTOX, DYSPORT and XEOMIN last 3-4 months.

Botox procedures generally last around 15 minutes, and no anesthesia is required. You can get back to your routine immediately. The only word of caution is to not rub or massage the injected areas, as the Botox can spread to another area of your face and cause temporary facial weakness or drooping.

A lot of women have this problem – their upper lip curls inward when they smile, making it disappear. A quick and simple way to improve your smile is to perform a “lip flip” using a few units of Botox in the muscles above the upper lip. Using Botox above the upper lip helps relax the muscles, which prevents the upper lip from curling in while smiling. This is a great way to balance your smile and look a bit poutier while still looking natural.

Botox lip flip

Because you move your mouth so much every day the Botox wears off a little faster than it typically does in other parts of the face. The Botox lip flip lasts around 2-3 months on average before you have to come back for a touch-up.

For people who suffer from chronic migraines, regularly administered Botox injections can help prevent and reduce the number of headaches experienced each month. If you experience frequent migraines lasting 4-5 hours or more, you may want to consider Botox treatment. The treatment consists of 31 injections every 12 weeks in 7 specific areas in your head, including your forehead, sides of your head above your temples, behind your ears toward the top of your neck and into your shoulder area at your neck.

Botox injections can vastly improve TMJ symptoms associated with jaw tension and pain. When injected into facial muscles afflicted with soreness and discomfort, Botox relieves TMJ pain for many patients. The treatment is completed usually within 15-30 minutes and most patients feel relief within 1-7 days after treatment.

Hyperhidrosis is the term used for excessive sweating of the palms and underarms, and this condition can be annoying and embarrassing. Botox treatments have been FDA-approved for people who have excessive underarm sweating and are a simple and uncomplicated way to effectively reduce these symptoms. The injections are generally well tolerated by patients and the treatment is very effective.

You may be a candidate for Botox treatments if your sweating fails to improve with antiperspirants or if you find yourself sweating when it’s not hot. Botox injections may also be used to reduce sweating in other areas such as the hands, feet, face, scalp and groin area. The treatment involves the injection of Botox into several areas of the skin which prevents the sweat glands from producing too much sweat. Most patients are happy with the results and the treatment improves their quality of life.

The injections are generally well tolerated by patients and the treatment is very effective. Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis takes about 20 minutes and the effects last for 4 to 6 months. We do offer Botox specials throughout the year, so please contact us to learn more or to schedule an appointment.

Platelet-Rich Plasma PrP Treatments

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, centrifuged to removed red blood cells. It has a greater concentration of growth factors than whole blood and has been used to encourage a brisk healing response of soft tissue, skin, tendons, and joints.

Main applications in sports medicine and orthopedics are acute muscle strains, tendinopathy and muscle-fascia injuries and osteoarthritis.

Main applications in dermatology for PRP are androgenic alopecia, wound healing, scar treatment, and skin rejuvenation.

We also offer PRP Therapy for injection into the penis and vaginal tissue for improved circulation, collagen-building and improved sexual responsiveness.

Prime MD uses PRP for cosmetic facials and collagen/elastin improvement, for hair restoration when coupled with additional growth factors and proteins, and for joint, tendon and muscle rehabilitation.

Platelet Rich Plasma’s natural healing process intensifies your body’s efforts by delivering a high concentration of regenerative growth factors directly into the damaged tissues.

Platelet rich plasma is a simple and relatively safe non-surgical procedure.

Skin rejuvenation method of using tiny needles to create microchannels (tiny holes) in the skin. This quick, nonsurgical treatment process stimulates your skin’s natural ability to heal itself and produce collagen and elastin with minimal downtime. This allows for more even, fuller, and fresher skin. We also offer microneedling with hyaluronic acid and/ or PRP with the addition of topical growth factors for more advanced collagen and elastic stimulation. The area is numbed with a topical cream to reduce the discomfort of the treatment and is cooled immediately post-treatment to decrease mild redness and swelling. Some patients experience mild swelling and redness for several hours after the treatment.

Chemical Peels

Vitalize Peel

The Vitalize Peel is the perfect fit for aging, sun damaged skin. It combines resorcinol, lactic, salicylic and retinoic acid to achieve dramatically transformed skin. It also stimulates collagen production, improves pigmentation, acne, and melasma, all while making your skin look younger — with fewer lines and wrinkles. Downtime can be up to 3 days of flaky skin.

Illuminize Peel

This is one of our clients’ favorite peels because it’s noninvasive and contains a newer generation of alpha-hydroxy acids (mandelic and malic acid) in combination with phytic acid and commonly used peeling agents (salicylic acid and resorcinol) to maximize skin rejuvenating effects with low irritation. The Illuminize Peel is great if you want to enhance your skin’s radiance, and it helps restore a younger appearance to your skin while improving its clarity and texture. If you’re a first-time peel patient, this is a great one to start with and results in little or no visible peeling during recovery.

Chemical Peels encourage cellular regeneration and refine the surface of the skin to produce a natural-looking glow and improve the skin texture by sloughing away the damaged outer layers. Fine Lines and Wrinkles are reduced, sun damaged discoloration is reduced and the skin is brightened and tightened. Acne scars and melasma may be treated with a specific solution. Skin Redness / Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels in your face. It may also produce small, red, pus-filled bumps.

Rosacea can occur in anyone, and is most common in middle-aged women who have fair skin. While there’s no cure for rosacea, treatments can control and reduce the signs and symptoms.

Laser treatment for Rosacea

FACIAL REDNESS Rosacea usually causes a persistent redness in the central part of the face. Small blood vessels on the nose and cheeks often swell and become visible.

SWOLLEN RED BUMPS Many people who have rosacea also develop pimples on their face that resemble acne. These bumps sometimes contain pus. Your skin may feel hot and tender.

The true cause of rosacea is unknown, but it is thought to be a result of combining certain hereditary and environmental factors. Rosacea is not caused by poor hygiene.

A number of factors can trigger or aggravate rosacea by increasing blood flow to the surface of your skin. Some of these factors include:

  • Hot drinks and spicy foods
  • Alcohol
  • Temperature extremes
  • Sunlight or wind
  • Emotions
  • Exercise
  • Cosmetics
  • Drugs that dilate blood vessels, including some blood pressure medications

Spider veins are red/purple/blue superficial enlarged veins. They can be found on the face and neck. Spider veins vary in size and can often look like a spider’s web.

For many people, spider veins — a common, mild variation of varicose veins — are simply a cosmetic concern. For other people, these can cause aching pain and discomfort. Sometimes spider veins lead to more serious problems.

  • Veins on the face that become red with straining, sun exposure, or with alcohol use
  • Veins that appear twisted and bulging or blue/purple
  • Itching around one or more of your veins
  • Bleeding from varicose veins
  • A painful vein with red discoloration of the skin
  • Color changes, hardening of the vein, or inflammation of the skin

Our newest laser offers non-invasive laser vein removal and reduction on most areas of the body. We offer a free consultation to evaluate your goals for vein treatment.

PrimeMD offers the latest microneedling treatment! Vivace™. Our Vivace clients are raving about their results.  They leave our office glowing and we continue to get positive feedback and results from happy clients who report they have restored a youthful skin appearance.

Vivace is fractional microneedle R/F, an FDA-cleared treatment that combines the latest generation of microneedling technology with radiofrequency (R/F).

This combination treatment is a proven noninvasive skin tightening method that, combined with PRP, becomes a powerful skin rejuvenation treatment that almost immediately and effectively improves skin texture & appearance, increases production of collagen, reduces fine lines, scars, stretch marks, and other blemishes. Vivace can produce a mild lifting and firming effect to improve skin sagging. and restoring an overall smoother, more youthful appearance.

Here are a few reasons why we, and our clients, love Vivace:

1. You’ll see almost immediate results!

Our patients leave our office glowing and notice significantly smoother, softer and younger-looking skin.  In just a few days after your first treatment, you’ll notice better skin texture, tone and even some mild tightening. Three treatments are necessary, spaced four weeks apart in order to optimize your results.

2. There’s no downtime

Vivace’s superfine needles and robotic-assisted mechanism result in an exceptionally precise, even treatment, with little-to-no bleeding. The combined R/F light helps stimulate collagen production and contributes to minimizing post-treatment redness and calming any inflammation. The gold-tipping miconeedles create invisible “microchannels” in your skin, and in addition to your own body triggering production of collagen, we apply nutrient serums to your skin after treatment to feed your skin and help it rapidly rebuild collagen and elastin.  Patients are required to abstain from using makeup for 24 hours. Most of our patients report they don’t need makeup due to the beautiful glow they experience right after treatment.

3. Skin tightening effect

Microneedling helps firm the skin texture, and with Vivace, we add R/F energy and this boosts skin tightening to another level. Many of our patients use Vivace to tighten mild jowling or sagging skin around the eyelids, cheeks, neck & decollete.

4. Treatment is comfortable.

Vivace does not tear skin like other microneedling technologies can do. We apply a numbing cream about 30 minutes before treatment.  A soothing mask is applied immediately after treatment to help cool the skin and minimize redness.

5. Vivace is safe for almost any skin type

Patients with all skin tones are suitable for Vivace skin resurfacing treatments. Vivace induces natural skin resurfacing without using heat or harsh chemicals or removing skin layers, so it’s safe for darker skin.

6. Vivace is excellent for acne scars, large pores, & minimizing stretch marks.

The collagen building combination of microneedling and RF helps strengthen and improve the texture of stretch-marked skin. It also helps with other common texture flaws, such as  large pores & acne scars, evening out their appearance.

7. Vivace can be used on areas other than the face.

By adjusting the depth of the micro-needling, Vivace can treat thinner skin on the hands, neck and chest.

Call us for a complimentary consultation and skin evaluation to see if Vivace is right for you.

Our medical grade facial treatments are customized to target each patient’s specialized needs. We evaluate your skin to determine the appropriate treatment best suitable for your skin type and condition.

Kybella (Permanent Local Fat Destruction)

Kybella is one of the best (and newest) facial slimming injectables on the market. If stubborn chin fat or even bra fat bothers you, Kybella may be the answer.

Kybella is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “Double Chin.” This medication is injected into the fat using a small needle after marking the area under sterile procedure to permanently destroy the fat in that area. Your body reabsorbs the fat and rids it from the body, Generally, 2 to 3 injections are needed to destroy the fat in a given area.

Double Chin

A Double Chin, also known as submental fat, is a common condition that occurs when a layer of fat forms below your chin. A Double Chin is often associated with weight gain, but you don’t have to be overweight to have one. Genetics or looser skin resulting from aging may also cause a Double Chin. A few different factors combine in the body to create a Double Chin. Understanding these factors may help with understanding ways to get rid of the Double Chin itself.

AGE The skin can start to lose its elasticity as the body ages, which can lead to the appearance of extra or saggy skin that may contribute to a Double Chin.

DIET AND WEIGHT While weight gain is not always the cause of a Double Chin, it can be a contributing factor. A diet high in calories, processed foods, and unhealthful fats may influence weight gain and a Double Chin.

GENETICS Genes may play a role in people developing a Double Chin. Anyone with a family history of skin with little elasticity or Double Chins might be more likely to develop one themselves.

POSTURE Poor posture can weaken the muscles of the neck and chin. This may contribute to a Double Chin over time, as the surrounding skin loses its elasticity when the muscles are not use.

Hair Loss

Hair loss can affect not only the scalp, but the entire body. It can be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions or medications. Anyone can experience hair loss. Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp. Hereditary hair loss with age is the most common cause of baldness. Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what’s causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body. Some types of hair loss are temporary, and others are permanent.

The best time to pursue treatment for hair loss is when you first notice thinning of your hair. This period of time, the hair can best be regenerated. Patients who start treatment when hair first begins thinning have much better results from their treatments.

Platelet-Rich Plasma PrP Treatments for Hair Restoration

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is used for hair restoration with good results for those with thinning hair or early hair loss. Late stage hair loss (when skin is totally bald and shiny) cannot be treated effectively with PrP hair restoration therapy. When you visit our office, we first evaluate whether you are a candidate for PrP therapy. If so, the treatment is simple. We start by drawing your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate your plasma, also known as “liquid gold”.

With a thin needle, your own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is injected into the scalp. Then the growth factors in your blood cells do their job and hair growth is naturally stimulated.

PRP Hair Restoration is suitable for both men and women. It is a non-surgical, totally natural, alternative medical procedure used for the treatment of hair loss or hair thinning. It is an injectable treatment which uses the patient’s own blood.

Your own blood plasma (PrP) contains active growth factors which can promote hair growth.

Multiple treatments are necessary and the number of treatments varies by individual based on amount of hair loss and areas treated. Call our office for more information about treatment plans and pricing.

Signs and Symptoms of Hair Loss

  • Gradual thinning. This is the most common type of Hair Loss, affecting both men and women as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede from the forehead in a line that resembles the letter M. Women typically retain the hairline on the forehead but have a broadening of the part in their hair.
  • Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people experience smooth, coin-sized bald spots. This type of Hair Loss usually affects just the scalp, but it sometimes also occurs in beards or eyebrows. In some cases, your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
  • Sudden loosening of hair. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of Hair Loss usually causes overall hair thinning and not bald patches.
  • Full-body Hair Loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
  • Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.

Men’s Aesthetics

Most men enter the world of aesthetics in one of these ways:

  1. Botox – Botox gives men a cutting edge in the competitive workplace by creating a youthful appearance through softening wrinkles around the eyes or forehead.
  2. Filler – A Voluma dermal filler to create a more dominant chin appearance or a small amount of dermal filler like Restylane under their eyes to reduce that sunken appearance.
  3. Kybella – Kybella creates a more chiseled chin and jawline, which is another masculine identifier. Most men prefer prefer a strong and defined neckline over a double chin.

  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Eyes
  • Brows/frown lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Palms (excessively sweaty palms)
  • Underarms (excessive sweat)

Injecting Botox in a man is different than a female because:

  1. Most males require more Botox to relax stronger facial muscles.
  2. A masculine brow is a low, flat brow. Using Botox to prevent a highly arched, female brow is important.

Results for Botox begin to be noticeable in a few days but can take up to a week for full effect. Results typically last 3-4 months.

Botox procedures generally last around 15 minutes, and no anesthesia is required. You can get back to your routine immediately.

Other treatments that appeal to men:

Kybella is the newest and most up-and-coming way to enter the aesthetics world, and it’s one of the few that has lasting results. It actually dissolves the fat and disables those cells from ever storing or accumulating fat again, so further treatment isn’t needed once the goal is achieved.

Typically, 3-4 treatment sessions of Kybella are required, 4-8 weeks apart. The best candidate is someone who is less than 50 years of age and has good skin elasticity. Once the fat is destroyed, it will not come back into the treated area again, so it lasts a lifetime.
